espresso shot at home
The aroma of fresh brewed coffee wakes all of our senses even before the first sip. That incomparable nutty aroma is the first part of the morning ritual. This is a true sensual experience. A true coffee drinker believes in taking the time necessary to select coffee beans, possibly blending favors, then carefully creating the finest morning coffee to start their day off on the right note. Coffee drinkers are often the ones who own their own home Espresso coffee machine. Beginning the day with hot coffee is the ritual of choice for over half of the worlds population.

The most devoted are those who prefer Espresso coffee. It is not surprising that Espresso coffee drinkers have very strong opinions about their favorite coffee beans. They often purchase bulk coffee beans from their favorite supplier, whether millstone coffee beans, green mountain coffee, or specialty houses like Newman’s Own certified organic coffee beans. With their own supply secure, an Espresso coffee aficionado may elect to grind a small amount and create their own fresh morning pick me up.
Espresso is not a run of the mill cup of coffee. It is highly concentrated coffee, usually created with a special home machine that forces hot water through finely ground coffee beans, to be served in one ounce portions. Espresso may also be purchased at one of the many coffee houses found all over the world. Coffee beans used to create a cup of Espresso are the same beans used for the ordinary cups of coffee, just ground differently and prepared with a special process that controls temperature, pressure of water used and amounts produced. The amount of caffeine in a serving of Espresso roughly equals that of a cup of coffee; 95 mg.
Home Espresso coffee machines use a device called an espresso pod. These can be purchased already made, or the user can make their own with a reusable plastic pod holder that guarantees that the correct amount of finely ground coffee beans are used. The espresso pod is placed in the espresso machine so that one cup of espresso can be created at a time. That is the basic process. From there variations range from adding milk, sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, fruit or nut flavors and even in some cases, brandy. Each coffee house tries to develop its own specialty.
Espresso coffee has no calories until some are added, but it does have healthful aspects. There is the caffeine, of course, that increases alertness and antioxidants from a plant based product to help ward off infections. Coffee beans are grown all over the world. The production of coffee plants has been noted historically for well over 500 years. At first, as with any new thing, there were many who resisted drinking coffee. Some of this resistance continues even today. Gradually, as the efforts to determine negative effects of coffee drinking fail, we see gradual acceptance becoming enthusiastic support. For those of us who stubbornly refused to relinquish our morning coffee, we can say I told you so!
