Since there isn’t exactly a massive range of under cabinet coffee makers on the market today, we will have a look at what is undoubtedly one of the most popular units you can buy today. The Black and Decker Spacesaver SDC850 is a modern update to the classic and revolutionary Spacersaver model. The original design was the model that really pushed under cabinet models into the limelight, and this new edition has revitalized the unit. In fact 2 of the mounting holes on this unit are in the same places as they were on the classic model to make upgrades hassle free.

The SDC850 features a modern and sleek design which consists of black plastic, stainless steel and blue switches. It has a digital interface for keeping track of things. It looks fantastic, and goes well with any kitchen. This unit can make 8 cups of coffee at a time, and has a thermal carafe which can keep the coffee hot for hours. Some of the features include a coffee freshness indicator so you know how old the coffee is, and a brew pause button so if you are a in rush you can grab however much coffee it has produced at that point in time without waiting any longer. However there are three common complaints about this unit, so please pay attention if you are interested in this item. The first problem is the length of screws that it comes with. Many people have complained that they are too long for standard cabinets, and this is somewhat true. If you run into this problem it isn’t really a big issue, as all you need to do is head down to your local diy shop and buy some shorter ones, or alternatively you could even cut the supplied screws shorter. Another common complaint related to the installation is getting the top panel to slide off in order to install it underneath the cabinet.

What the manual doesn’t mention is that you need to put some pressure on the top of the unit then slide it off. That’s all there is to it.You only need to take the top off for the installation, so it isn’t an everyday issue to worry about. The last thing some folks have issues with is the carafe leaking. This was a problem when the unit was first being manufactured in late 2008 and early 2009, but they have now since corrected it and it works as intended in newer units. Aside from that it is backed by a 2 year warranty for peace of mind.

We recommend you look at some newer reviews so you don’t get a bad impression of the unit, as it really is a fantastic looking and performing unit once you manage to get past the awkward installation. You can see the latest reviews and pricing on Amazon over here.
